Consulting civil engineers liaise with clients to plan, manage, design and supervise the construction of projects. After a few years in the construction sector, the salaries may surpass even those from IT field.
Academically inclined students may opt for Masters and PhD and get absorbed in R & D labs or teaching institutes. Scholars with enterpreneunership skills may even set up their own construction firms or consultancies!
