Bachelor of Food Engineering and Technology serves as the basic undergraduate course to cater to the know-how of a budding food professional. This course is a combination of vital elements from Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering, Data Analytics and Management that are crucial to justify the role of food engineers in a food and allied industry. Thus, graduates of Food Engineering and Technology can position themselves in a multitude of job positions in food industries and its sub-sectors like manufacturing, packaging, utilities, quality control, analysis, new product development, existing product improvement, data analysis and a lot more.
The expanding network of food processing industries is not recently limited to processing, packaging, and improving food products, ensuring higher quality but is closely linked with the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) market. This sector wants Food Engineering and Technology knowledge along with Process Data Analytics to deal with supply chain, statistical quality and process control, Precision Food Processing, business forecast, surveillance, risk assessment, public health surveillance, nutrition epidemiology, and many more. Being a market hub with plenty of low-cost labour and abundant raw materials, India is now a preferred choice for investment in food processing; many industries have already invested, and many are yet to come in the coming years. Approx every district in India has large, scale Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industries.
To deal with such national and industrial needs and upcoming opportunities in the following decades, we have designed a four-year B. Tech course structure for “Food Engineering and Technology” in consultation with industry and academic experts.
The course is unique as it not only focuses on grooming the competent core Food Engineering and Technology components but will equip the student well to integrate them with the digital platforms with the requirements of Engineering 4.0.
To meet the current industrial needs subjects like Programming Language and Data Base Management Systems, Statistical Machine Learning, Algorithms For Big Data, Regression Techniques, Data Mining and Data Visualization and Big Data analysis are well integrated into the programme core subjects so that the Food Engineering & Technology graduates can be well acquainted with the industrial need.
To promote Academic Industry Partnership, we are connecting with experts from Industry and Academia to provide enhanced access to hiring for internships/jobs, the opportunity to have students work on projects of interest, mentoring students working on the projects, collaborating with BIT Mesra faculty on tackling technical problems, delivering guest lectures, and obtaining early access to cutting-edge research and training (in-person and virtual reality).
We have already signed MOA with different industries and are trying to onboard several others to provide the student mentorship from industrial experts, trainings and pre placement offers.
