The proposed course aims to provide students with a broad theoretical and practical background in Pharmaceutical Chemistry with knowledge concerned with medicinal drugs obtained from synthetic and natural sources. The course deals with the study of drugs, and it involves drug development. The course discusses qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques, synthesis of pharmaceuticals, and natural products chemistry as per the standard regulatory guidelines. In this 2 years Full Time Residential Course, professional attention is given to train students in handling and testing natural pharmaceuticals / related products using analytical instruments (like HPLC, HPLC-MS/MS, HPTLC, FTIR, IR, GC, DSC etc) and acquaint students with the latest industrial trends as well as National or International standards organization. Research includes in-silico design, synthesis (conventional, microwave, development of combinatorial solution phase synthetic techniques) and evaluation of novel candidate compounds with special reference to heterocyclic moieties and small peptides in the field of antimicrobial, antiprotozoal, antiviral, antiHIV, anticancer, analgesic, antihistaminic, anticonvulsant, cardiovascular, antidiabetic and other activities. Natural products-chemistry/ pharmacology/ structure standardization/ using spectroscopic methods (UV-VIS/IR/NMR/MS etc.) and Studies on synthetic nutraceuticals.
